Child Protection Procedures

Most parents are probably familiar with written school reports which provide information and details of how their child is progressing across all aspects of the curriculum, and indicating next steps in learning. At Bishopbriggs Academy, however, we, in common with other EDC schools, utilise an electronic reporting system called SEEMIS Click and Go.

Teachers within EDC are now able to prepare reports electronically using the SEEMIS integrated school management information system, known as Click and Go. This package addresses all aspects of school administration including attainment information, attendance and timetabling. Teachers using Click and Go are able to build a detailed and accurate report giving more information about each child throughout the session, and indicating next steps in learning in all areas of the curriculum. The information recorded using the system concerning the progress or behaviour of a pupil can, therefore, be shared more accurately with parents and other agencies more easily.

Mobile Phone Use 

The Education Committee of East Dunbartonshire Council agreed that each school sets its own policy in relation to pupil use of mobile phones in school.

1. Pupils do not require mobile phones in school and will have access to ICT when required.
2. If pupils bring mobile phones to school, they can use their lockers to keep their phones secure.
3. Parents are advised that East Dunbartonshire Council will not accept liability for the loss or damage of mobile phones which are brought into the school or school grounds by pupils.
4. If pupils bring mobile phones to school, phones must remain switched off while pupils are in class and assemblies.
5. Pupils can use mobile phones in classrooms and during study periods as long as the purpose is to facilitate learning. Use of mobile phones in the classroom will be at the discretion of the class teacher.
6. Any pupil using their mobile phone irresponsibly in class may be asked to place their mobile phone on the teacher’s desk for the remainder of the period. The class teacher can decide whether to return the mobile phone to the pupil at the end of the period or to pass it to the relevant year head.
7. Any pupil using their mobile phone inappropriately in school will have it confiscated and given to either a member of the Guidance Team or Senior Leadership Team. The appropriate member of staff will discuss next steps with the pupil and return the phone to the pupil at the end of the same school day.
8. Discussions between the school, pupil and parent may involve pupils not having access or only restricted access to their mobile phone during the school day.
9. This policy will be shared on the school website and also included in the staff handbook.
