Welcome to our website.  We hope you find it concise, informative and stimulating.

I have been fortunate enough to have spent my entire teaching career at Bishopbriggs Academy and have been at the school from the very first day it opened its doors to young people back in 2006. I feel very strongly about the school's vision, values and aims as they are aligned to social justice and commitment to inclusive education. I have very high expectations of our pupils in relation to uniform, attendance, timekeeping, behaviour, organisation, effort, consideration for each other and respect for the community and environment. I believe every young person can get these areas of their life right and if they do then they have a platform for success no matter how significant the challenges and barriers that await them. I stress to pupils that we as people are defined by the choices we consistently make and the many decisions we act on each day reflects our character. It is our collective objective that through the support and nurture pupils receive in school and at home that every young person will leave Bishopbriggs Academy being a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor.

At Bishopbriggs Academy every member of staff is aware of their role in ensuring all our pupils receive universal support and we work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure they get targeted support when required. We have a number of key individuals in a variety of roles relating to the Scottish Attainment Challenge that ensure our young people receive the targeted support they require to fulfil their potential. We also benefit from having an engaged parent body who are incredibly supportive of the school. There is a fantastic relationship between the school and our parents which is a result of the high level of trust that has been built up over the years.

Bishopbriggs Academy was described by her Majesty’s Inspectors from Education Scotland as an ‘outstanding school’. In November 2021, we received the prestigious accolade of being named The Sunday Times ‘Scottish State Secondary School of the Decade’. This is incredible recognition for everyone associated with the school and is reflective of the professionalism, devotion and dedication of our staff in ensuring our young people have the best possible educational experience.

Bishopbriggs Academy has always been proud of its ethos, the positive relationship with the community, the mutual respect between stakeholders and the compassion and empathy pupils show for one another. I feel very privileged to be in the position I find myself in and having worked with a number of fantastic role models over the years I am fully aware of the responsibilities that come with the job. Most of all I feel fortunate to work with our impressive young people and fulfil the role with the support of the incredible staff we have at the school and of course our parents. I will endeavour to do everything in my power to be the type of Head Teacher everyone associated with this school has become accustomed to and so richly deserves.

Sincerely,

Ian Donaghey
