Our Enhanced Learning Resource (ELR) opened in August 2011 and provides Tier 2 support for pupils across East Dunbartonshire.  All ELR pupils are supported to access whole school academic, social and extra-curricular activities within the school community.

ELR pupils follow their mainstream timetable, with adaptations to curriculum and environment to meet learner’s needs. Pupils also benefit from the smaller environment of the ELR for targeted interventions, responsive to their individual learning needs.

ELR deliver bespoke BGE literacy, numeracy and wellbeing programmes. As well as a range of alternative pathways for Senior Phase pupils, ELR pupils are encouraged to attend BAlance (Bishopbriggs Academy learning to achieve neuro core excellence) each morning, alongside Wellbeing Wednesday and FUN 31 (Outdoor Activities).

Working with several partners we are able to support positive post school destinations, independent travel, volunteering opportunities and develop the Meta-skills required for learning, life and work. ELR staff also work collaboratively with a variety of other agencies to meet pupils’ needs including Speech and Language Therapy, Local Area Coordinators, Social Work, Educational Psychology and CAMHS.

Aims and objectives of the Enhanced Learning Resource are to:

  • create a supportive, inclusive environment where all learners experience success and develop the confidence to access classes throughout the school.
  • provide alternative pathways responsive to individual support needs and enables all learners to achieve their fullest potential.
  • support the inclusion of ELR pupils within subject classes across the school to ensure all pupils experience appropriate levels of support and challenge.
  • ensure specific support needs are addressed through provision of a Wellbeing Assessment, Action Plan or CSP which are monitored and regularly reviewed by the Team Around the Child.
  • involve pupils in decisions about their own learning and levels of support required.
  • communicate and involve parents/carers in the learning and progress of their children.
  • work in partnership with teaching staff throughout the school and with other external agencies
  • develop social and emotional skills within meaningful and relevant contexts and support pupils to develop relationships within the school.
  • encourage and support pupil participation in a broad range of school experiences and celebrate the wider achievement of all learners.
