Twitter ( is an online social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters known as "tweets".

Twitter was created in March 2006 and by July the social networking site was launched. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily. You tweet about anything, at any time. Any fellow tweeter can decide to read your tweets and become a follower, which means that your Tweets automatically appear on their Twitter page or mobile phone. They can also reply to you directly if they choose to. Unlike email or text messaging on mobile phones, these conversations take place in the open.

If you ‘follow us’ on Twitter, you can expect tweets and posts during school hours on some or all of the following:

  • Alerts about new content on our website
  • Alerts about forthcoming events such as concerts, Parents’ Meetings and Information Evenings
  • Alerts about letters/notices etc issued via “schoolbag” post
  • Invitations to provide feedback on specific issues on which we are consulting
  • Emergency information (which will also be tweeted and posted out of school hours where possible and as required).

If you follow us on Twitter, we will not automatically follow you.

Being followed by Bishopbriggs Academy or East Dunbartonshire Council does not imply endorsement of any kind.

Where possible we will update and monitor our Twitter account during term time and school hours, Monday to Friday. Our Twitter account will generally not be updated during school holidays.  Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.

We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers. However, we are not able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter.

Comments and complaints regarding our Twitter account should be made to
