Top of the Bench 2017

Four pupils were chosen to represent our school in The Royal Society of Chemistry, Top of the Bench competition on Wednesday 22nd November 2017. The Bishopbriggs Academy team comprised of Asirini Parakramawansha (2M1), Vincent Wan (3T2), Marco D’Alessio (3F2) and Lily Inigo (4K2). The competition took place in the prestigious Joseph Black Building in Glasgow University’s Chemistry Department with 30 schools across the West of Scotland taking part in the event, all hoping to win and progress to the National Final.

Watched by parents and teachers, the competition involved two rounds of questions followed by a problem solving practical activity that involved the team building an electrochemical cell. In addition, the teams listened to a lecture from an esteemed analytical chemist who entertained them with stories from his long career while informing and inspiring the future scientists in the audience to work hard and follow their dreams.

The results placed our team in the top 10 schools that took part and rather than be too disappointed that they didn’t win, our team said that they had really enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to take part and do their best.
