Working with the local library, Bishopbriggs Academy has formed a computing club using a number of pupils from the school. There are nine pupils involved, all from S4, who assist and teach a group of senior citizens about different basic ways to work a computer, for example, how to use E-bay, how to send emails, and how to use search engines such as Google.
The club refers to themselves as the ‘Silver Surfers'. At every meeting, the pupils have the chance to have a one-on-one tuition with the senior citizen they have been teamed up with. This allows each senior citizen to be able to specify what it is that day that they would like to go over with their tutor.
All of the pupils involved have proved to be excellent tutors and have thoroughly enjoyed working with the senior citizens.
