S1 Library and Information Skills

At Bishopbriggs Academy all S1 pupils participate in classes on library and information skills throughout first year.  This equips pupils with the necessary skills to get the best out of the Library and its resources.  The course covers topics such as fiction and non-fiction and how they are arranged on the Library shelves; reference material; researching information including the use of indexes; research skills such as skimming and scanning and plagiarism and the general organisation and use of the Library.  A number of activities to encourage reading are also undertaken. Pupils also visit the Library to borrow books as part of the English department's individual reading programme and with other subjects to use the Library's resources and ICT facilities.
