Poetry by Heart Competition 2015

Lydia Roy

Congratulations to S6 pupil, Lydia Roy who won the Poetry by Heart West of Scotland Heat. Lydia has been taking part in the inspiring competition designed to encourage students in Scotland to learn and recite poems by heart. Following the initial school contest in December, Lydia proceeded to the regional heat held at the High School of Glasgow on 27th February where she was declared the winner. Lydia gave outstanding recitations of ‘Invictus’ by William Ernest Henley and ‘A Supermarket in California’ by Allen Ginsberg and was highly praised by the judges for her performance.

Lydia will now move forward to represent the West of Scotland in the National Final on 28th March where Scottish Makar, Liz Lochhead will be one of the judges.
