Metaphrog

In June 2015, graphic novelists Metaphrog came to Bishopbriggs Academy to speak to S2 pupils about their work and about illustrating posters and other marketing materials. Metaphrog are Sandra Marrs and John Chalmers who have been creating graphic novels and comics together since 1996. East Dunbartonshire Council Librarians then challenged the pupils to design posters to attract people – particularly young people – back into Libraries. The top eight designs have been printed and distributed round East Dunbartonshire and were displayed in Bishopbriggs Library.  Special mention should be made to Lisa Reid whose bold and original cat poster was selected as the favourite.

Pictured above are Aidan Otterson, Kimberley Shek, Honor Gibson, Lisa Reid, Leigh-Anne Todd, Abbie Sutherland and Sorley Johnston.  Zuzanna Rosinska, who also had a winning design was not available when the photograph was taken.

Thanks go to the pupils for their hard work, and to the Art Department for taking the time to support this project. Thank you also to Metaphrog for their inspiring workshop, to Scottish Book Trust for part-funding this as part of the Live Literature programme, to Rebecca McKellar, Children and Families Development Officer at East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust and Alison Irvine’s “Reader in Residence”.
