Mathematik – zum Anfassen 2015

In March 2015 Bishopbriggs Academy pupils visited the Goethe Institut’s Mathematik – zum Anfassen (Mathematics You Can Touch) Exhibition  based in Woodhill Evangelical Church in Bishopbriggs. This was a new interactive exhibition which linked science with culture and languages and demonstrated how being competent in a foreign language can be an advantage in science and, in particular, mathematics.

As the only school in Scotland to be part of Schulen: Partner der Zukunft (Schools: Partners for the future), some of our young people were also fortunate to attend the opening ceremony on Monday 16th March whilst others had the opportunity to attend the exhibition at various times. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to solve mathematical puzzles and develop their German language skills.

Councillor Eric Gotts, Convener of the Council’s Education Committee, was delighted that the exhibition came to East Dunbartonshire and stated “This exhibition has been on tour around the world and it is an honour that the organisers, The Goethe-Institut, have chosen us as its Scottish hosts. Bishopbriggs Academy is the only school in Scotland to be part of Schulen: Partner der Zukunft, (Schools: Partners for the Future) which enables pupils to connect with students in over 1,000 schools across the globe.  It is that special relationship which has brought the exhibition here for the benefit of our local pupils.”
