"THINK GERMAN FOR JOBS" CAREER FAIR 2013

Mr Moulsdale and pupils welcome guests to the German Careers Fair

On Wednesday 25th September 2013 just a day prior to the European Day of Languages, 550 young visitors from 23 schools from Aberdeen to Glasgow visited Bishopbriggs Academy to attend the "Think German for Jobs" Careers Fair. Twenty one companies with links to Germany exhibited their products and services and four Scottish universities provided information materials and introduced study options at the Fair. This gave pupils studying languages and in particular German, the opportunity to meet with businesses and organisations to inspire their career and life choices and to experience first-hand the relevance of language skills in a career context.

The Fair was organised by the Goethe Institut and was also supported by the City of Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire Councils and the Scottish branch of the German-British Chamber of Industry & Commerce.

With Germany continuing to be one of UK’s top trading partners and the importance of German language skills recently highlighted by the CBI report, Learning to Grow: What Employers need from education and Skills, this event will also provide an important contribution to the Scottish Government’s effort to improve language learning in Scottish education (1+2 Languages Policy).
