Galaxy of StarsWe at Bishopbriggs Academy strive to ensure the highest quality of support is in place for our young people in their academic studies. However we also pride ourselves in the huge range and wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities we provide for our pupils.

We believe in the importance of encouraging, developing and celebrating all talents and achievements. In the last year a great number of our pupils have excelled themselves in a variety of different fields.

In no particular order, the major successes include:

Sixth year pupils Jenna Thomson and Laura McMillan who achieved the Level 1 Dance Leadership Award in September 2013. The Dance tutors commented that both girls were excellent ambassadors for Bishopbriggs Academy.  

Fifth year pupil Nirvair Ghatorae who won theNirvair with Mark Merley, President Senior Final of the Rotary Club Schools Public Speaking Competition at Glasgow Caledonian University on Tuesday 26th November 2013. Nirvair beat fifteen other contestants with a speech on ‘Space Exploration – The Next Technological Breakthrough’ gaining very high marks from all the judges for her confident, well prepared and poised speech.

 Rebecca Michael, Juliet Ross, Emma Barclay and Stephen Ross  who came third out of thirteen schools in the annual Royal Society of Chemistry Top of the Bench competition on 7th November 2013. After a hard fought competition only four points divided the top three places. 


Bishopbriggs Aacdemy Team

At the EDC Dance Festival 2014 which was held in February at Lenzie Academy Bishopbriggs Academy was placed “Runner- up” in the Overall Best School Award. A special mention to the following groups who won the following awards:-

  • S1 Girls – 1st Junior Contemporary Section
  • S2 Girls – 2nd Junior Contemporary section
  • S3 Girls – 2nd Junior Hip Hop Section
  • S5 Girls – 3rd Senior Contemporary section
  • S6 Girls – 2nd Senior “other /Jazz Section

A number of our pupils have recently been successful in having their work published in two poetry anthologies. Robbie Brown, Morgan Butler, Robbie Daniel, Cameron Fraser, Cerys Glen, Rachel Glen, Jack Kiberd, Ailie Kennedy, Ryan Martin, Holly McAllister, Greig McDougall, Erin McGuire, Scott Peebles, Amrit Supra, Lewis Swift and Callum Wong had poems published in The Poetry Games - Creative Voices and Saira Ali, Matthew Donnelly and Rachel Pryde have poems published in The Poetry Games - UK Voices. The two books will be published in May and June 2014 and copies will also be sent to the British Library and other libraries throughout Scotland and the UK to ensure they are kept for posterity.

Rory Welsh, S4 has had sporting success in boxing with the Rob Roy Amateur Boxing Club. In 2012 Rory won the Scottish Novice Champion at 42kg and in 2014 won the Scottish Intermediate Champion at 50kg.

S5 Pupils, David Low, Fraser Alexander and Euan Russell received the highest award in the Boys' Brigade - the Queen's Badge.  They were presented with their awards at a special presentation ceremony in Glasgow City Chambers.

Fifth Year pupil, Jacob Williams was awarded the East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action Young Volunteer of the Year award in June 2014 for his work as a volunteer at school, in the community and Boys' Brigade.
