We at Bishopbriggs Academy strive to ensure the highest quality of support is in place for our young people in their academic studies. However we also pride ourselves in the huge range and wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities we provide for our pupils.


We believe in the importance of encouraging, developing and celebrating all talents and achievements. In the last year a great number of our pupils have excelled themselves in a variety of different fields.

In no particular order, the major successes included:

In Public Speaking, Lydia Roy and Michael Low took first place in the Kirkintilloch Speakers’ Pubic Speaking competition at Junior and Senior level respectively.

In Chemistry, Emma Cameron, Perry Gibson, and Drew Wallace reached the final of the Glasgow Region competition for the Royal Society Top of the Bench quiz.

In Science, Go4SET, Elshan Fatahiany, Matthew Ramsay, Andrew Young, Katie Glen, Emma Cameron and Nabeel Salim won the Most Innovative Project award at the Glasgow regional final and £250 for the school.

In Business Management, Erol Doganoz, Christopher McDougall, Emma McCarthy and Nicole Winchcole participated in the Stock Exchange Challenge at the Mitchell Library.

In Athletics, Stella Winter won silver at the Scottish Schools indoor 800m, Bronze at the outdoor 800m, Gold at 1500m under 18 National Finals and represented Scotland in Celtic Games under 17, 1500m taking silver. She also represented Scotland in Gothenburg at under 17 1500m, and was the gold medal winner at the County Sports triathlon. Lewis Boyle won silver at the Scottish Schools outdoors 1500m and Gold at the indoors 800m. He was also chosen to represent Scotland in both Cross Country and Track.

County Sports, gold medal winners were Narelle Lyons for Javelin and our S2 boys relay team. Silver medals went to, Rachel Faichnie, hurdles, David Williamson, hurdles, Yvette McCormack long jump, Cameron Gaul long jump, Kieran Laverty discus, Callum McKinney, Javelin and Jack Caven, 400m. Bronze medals went to Aimee Scott hurdles, Lynsey Mercer, shot putt, Narelle Lyons, discus, Innes Hill shot putt, Alex Cassells hurdles, Millie Boyle 1500m, Cameron Skimins high jump and the S1 Girls Relay.

In Badminton, Jack Stevenson was selected for the Scotland Squad at U17 level.

In Gymnastics, Scottish Schools Finalists and silver medal winners at Dumbarton Schools, Sarah Finlay, Emma Owens, Heather Mardle and Fiona Glen.

Gymfest, East Dunbarton and Nationals Finals, Georgia Ruth, Fiona Glen, Arianna Scott, Sophie Moodie, Molly Murray, Sarah Finlay, Emma Owen, Heather Mardle, Holly Scott, Shannon McInnes, Lauren Burke, Holly Aston, Julie McNicol, Laura McMillan, Amy Haddock, Stella Winters, Karen Whitelaw.

In Dance, Bishopbriggs Academy were overall winners at the EDC Dance Festival.

Section winners for Senior Modern and Senior Hip hop were, Lauren Burke, Laura McMillan, Eilidh Hope, Eilidh Mathers, Stella Winters, Amy Haddock, Julie McNicol, and Rebecca Pryde.

Section winners for Junior Hip Hop were Darren Mathers, Heather MacLean, Emma Savage, Kirstin M Brown, Kirsty Martin, Hannah Macdonald, Amy Cowan and Joanne Mullen.

In Art and Design, winners of the National Cyber Bullying Competition were, Alicia Montgomery, Renae Sung, Lisa Moore, and Ailsa Young.

Gavin McCusker was the winner of EDC Christmas Card competition.

Lewis Prenty, had his Higher Art and Design work selected by the SQA as an example of excellence.

In Rugby our S3/4 team have reached the semi finals of the Scottish Bowl. Kirpal Singh won gold in the 100m and 200m County Sports Athletics.

In Football, Jordan Scott reached the U15 Glasgow Schools Squad and Darren Lyon the U18 Scottish School trialist. U13 Boys’ team won the Glasgow Schools Castle Cup and the East Dunbartonshire League and Cup double. The U15 team were East Dunbartonshire League winners. The U13, 16 and 18 teams all qualified for the Glasgow League final playoffs. In addition the U13 and 18 teams both reached the semi finals of the Scottish Shield. U13 and 14 teams are going to a Football Development Tour to Villarreal in June 2012.

In Drama, our S1/S2 Junior Drama Club wrote and performed plays on the life of Thomas Muir at the Thomas Muir Festival in May.
