Duke of Edinburgh's Award 2012 - 13

Duke of Edinburgh's Award logoWe are now in our 6th year of involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh and interest and participation continue to grow. We enrolled 30 pupils from our third year into our Bronze Level and they completed their first walk on 1st December;  the next is planned for January 2013. Twenty eight of the current fourth year pupils are putting the finishing touches to their Bronze Level and most have started working towards their Silver Level. We also have a number of “new starts” who have gone directly in to Silver, taking the total number of pupils to over forty.

In August 2012, 22 pupils completed a 50 mile expedition walking for four days and camping for three nights as part of their Gold Award. One of these pupils has now completed the entire Gold Award and will be invited to Holyrood Palace in July to receive her award. Hopefully a few more will complete in time to be awarded this year. East Dunbartonshire Council has organised an official award ceremony (now in its third year) which is planned for 27th February and once again we have a large number of pupils gaining formal recognition for their efforts.

We currently have approximately 150 pupils involved between all three levels. None of this would be possible without the huge amount of time given up by our staff and special mention must be made of Ms Mills, Ms McAlister, Mr Willox, Mr Blackburn, Dr Ghatorae and Mr Moore.
