Bright Futures 2016

On Friday 5 February 2016 the Bright Futures Committee of Bishopbriggs Academy organised a Careers Event aimed at Senior Phase pupils. The Committee comprises of 10 ambitious senior pupils from S6 who are tasked with organising events and opportunities to enhance employability prospects for all young people at Bishopbriggs Academy.

Throughout this event pupils aged 15-17 opted to work with professionals from hospitality, banking and financial services, acting, education, law, the Armed Forces and the Fire Service. The purpose of this was to gain insight into specific recruitment processes. Pupils participated in individual writing tasks, interviews, debates, team presentations and group discussions; in some cases pupils participated in psychometric tests, numeracy tests and personality tests.  All of which informed the young people of the crucial skills required in learning life and work, such as confidence, resilience and interpersonal skills.

All pupils gave a fantastic account of themselves but some individuals made a significant impression on the professionals. Their outstanding contributions were acknowledged by the professionals and most were rewarded with a work placement. Well done to Monisha Sandhu, Andrew Cook, Byron Yip, Mark Hunter, Alistair Kennard, Katie Robinson, Nicola Alexander, Rachel McLean, Scott Kerr, Marisa Silvestro, Melissa Kerr, Skye Stone, Nicole Rounagh, Ross Gillies, Cameron Gillies, Harry Lamond, Craig Loughlin, David Scott and Dylan Todd.  It is hoped that all participants can call on their experiences of being involved with this event and that it will assist them with the process of achieving a positive and sustained destination.
