Beatson Cancer Charity - Gala Dinner 2015

On Saturday 21st March 2015, Bishopbriggs Academy hosted a Gala Dinner at the prestigious 200SVS in Glasgow to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity.  Whilst the school raises funds for many charities throughout the year, S6 prefects select one charity to be the main target for fund raising throughout the year.  The Beatson Cancer Charity has provided support to the families of pupils in the school and a number of smaller events such as bake sales, a sleepover in school and the Ice Bucket Challenge have already been held to raise funds for this worthwhile charity.

The Gala Dinner was a fantastic success, attended by over 200 people.  Guests enjoyed a champagne reception, meal and musical entertainment from many of Bishopbriggs Academy’s talented musicians and singers.  Funds were also raised from an auction which had many special lots under offer, a silent auction, raffles and the sale of the table decorations.  Guests then finished off the evening with a ceilidh.

The Gala Dinner would not have been a success without the many people and companies who kindly donated items for the evening and also the guests who came along on the evening and generously spent their money.  Bishopbriggs Academy would also like to thank Mr David Moulsdale and his staff at 200SVS who worked so hard during the evening; Mrs Andrena Bain who spoke movingly about the help she received from the Charity; the Singing Waiters from Secret Opera Singers who entertained guests during the meal; Mr Robin Galloway who was our compere for the evening and Mr Andy Cameron who hosted the auction and persuaded our guests to bid for auction lots.  Special thanks must also go to School Assistant, Ms Kirsty Mills and the team of prefects who worked tirelessly for several months to organise and host the Gala Dinner.

In total, Bishopbriggs Academy raised the fantastic sum of £52,119 for the Beatson Cancer Charity.
