U18s Scottish Shield Champions!

Congratulations to our U18 Boys Football Team who were crowned Scottish Schools champions on Thursday 9th May. They beat St Peter the Apostle 2-0 in what was a very close encounter. Many thanks for all good wishes and especially to those who braved the elements and attended the game. Thank you to Mr Ross and Mr Fulton for the tremendous job they have done in working with the team all season and on this fantastic achievement.

Bugsy Malone

Tickets for this year’s school show – Bugsy Malone are on sale from Monday 13th May 2013. This year there are three performances from Tuesday 11th – Thursday 13th June 2013 at 7.30pm. Join us for an evening of superb entertainment. Tickets which cost £8 for adults, £6 for concessions or a £25 family ticket for 2 adults and 2 concessions are available from the school office. Pupils may also purchase tickets from the school library. Get your tickets before they all sell out!
Netball News

Our netball teams have recently had a number of successes in both the East Dunbartonshire League and Scottish Netball Cup. Well done to everyone involved!
In the East Dunbartonshire League successes included:
- The S3/4 Netball team winning the league - Gold medals all round!
- The S1/2 Netball team being runners-up in the league - Silver medals all round!
- Both S3/4 and S1/2 Netball teams winning the “End-of-Season” Leagues Tournament.
Scottish Netball Cup:
- The S1 team made a brave start, qualifying for the Bronze League this year.
- The S2 team had a brilliant season and qualified for the Gold League, reaching the Quarter Finals.
- The S3 team qualified for the Silver League and reached the last 16.
- The Open team (S4/5/6) qualified for the Silver League and reached the Semi-Finals.
Teenage Cancer Trust Concert

Bishopbriggs Academy is hosting a concert to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust on Wednesday 5th June 2013. This will be an amazing night featuring local singers, dancers and musicians performing jazz, modern pop, dance and songs from Broadway musicals. Tickets costing £5.00 can be purchased in school from S6 pupil, Gregor Reid or by emailing singifyouwannabeatcancer@gmail.com.
Bugsy Malone Cast Rehearsal Schedule

The schedule of dates for rehearsals is now available. We would appreciate if you can make as many of these as you can. Some pupils will be studying for SQA exams and the school show should always come second to that. However, if you plan your study time well, rehearsals should be a chance to give your brain a rest before returning home to further study! Please let Miss Docherty know well in advance if you cannot attend and check schedules regularly as times may change nearer the show performances.
Tickets will go on sale to cast members from Monday 29th April 2013. Tickets will be available from the school library and cost £8.00 for adults and £6.00 for concessions and children. A £25 family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children will also be available.
Bishopbriggs Academy U18s Cruise to Final!

Bishopbriggs Academy U18s football team cruised in to the final of the Scottish Shield with a fantastic 5 - 1 victory against Stonelaw High School at Broadwood Stadium on Friday19th April. Goals from Ethan Dastey, James Taylor, James Finlay and Lee Davison and an own goal from the Stonelaw goalkeeper ensured their place in the forthcoming final. Read the full match report here.

Under 18 Scottish Shield

Congratulations to the Boys Under 18s football team who have successfully made it through to the semi-final of the Senior Scottish Shield.
In a competition which started with 138 schools the boys have managed to make it to the final four knocking out a number of excellent opponents along the way.
Please keep an eye on the school website for the date and location of the semi-final. It would be great to see a big support to cheer on our boys.

Sport Your Trainers

On Friday 8th March, Bishopbriggs showed support for Commonwealth Day by pupils wearing their trainers to school and participating in activities related to the games in 2014. Out of 250 schools, we were rewarded with a visit from 'Clyde' the Commonwealth Mascot. Clyde and his team came along on Monday 11th March to promote the games and thank Bishopbriggs for their support. The pupils were involved in a presentation about the history of the Commonwealth and participated in a question/answer session. In addition, our LEAD 2014 sports leaders visited Woodhill Primary to deliver an aerobics session to Primary 5 on their 'Sport Your Trainers' day.

School Meals - Price Increase

The cost of a school lunch will increase from Monday 15th April 2013. A Secondary School 2 course meal or Daily Meal Deal will cost £2.10. Further information from East Dunbartonshire Council regarding this can be viewed here.
PTA Race Night

A massive thank you to everyone who attended the PTA Race Night on Friday 15th February. This was a fantastic night, enjoyed by everyone who came along. In total, £2562 was raised for school funds.
PTA St Andrew's Night Ceilidh

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to enjoy our St. Andrew's Night Ceilidh. Organised by the PTA, the Ceilidh raised £335 for school funds. Thank you, also, to our school ceilidh band who provided musical entertainment during the evening. Members of the PTA are pictured below presenting a cheque for school funds to Mr Moulsdale.

RSC Top of the Bench Competition

Congratulations to Assen Rizov, Gurdeep Panesar, Stephen Ross and Harneet Kaur who won third place in the Royal Society of Chemistry Top of the Bench competition on Thursday 22nd November. Thirteen teams participated in the competition. Following a hard fought competition Glasgow Academy took first place, St Aloysius were second and Bishopbriggs Academy were third equal with Turnbull High School.

International School Award

We are delighted to announce that Bishopbriggs Academy has gained accreditation for the International Schools Award. This
accreditation, which lasts for three years, is awarded by the British Council and recognises the varied and vast amount of work Bishopbriggs Academy carries out with a range of international partners. Activities included our links with schools in several countries as part of Schulen: Partner der Zukunft (Schools: Partners for the Future) and our work with the Goethe Institut, pupil exchange trips with German schools, a charity languages event working with SCIAF, annual Peace One Day activities, Battlefields experiences, the Write for Rights Campaign, Water for Life Project, Fair Trade and Holocaust Education Trust visits to Auschwitz in Poland. Thanks must go to the International Education Committee for all their hard work in gathering evidence and submitting a superb portfolio of work to the British Council.
New School Minibus

We are delighted that we now have our new minibus. The school worked hard to raise the funds to purchase the new bus with a number of fund raising events including a sponsored walk covering 20 miles of the West Highland Way and a Christmas Fayre. Many thanks to everyone who contributed and especially to Optical Express who very kindly provided additional funds by sponsoring the bus. Having the minbus is of great benefit to the school, allowing many trips to take place throughout the year.
Cashless Catering

You will recently have received a letter detailing information on how to access the new payment method for online cashless catering. It has been brought to my attention that the Account Reference number was missing the initial two digits for each account; all numbers should start with 00. If you have any problems accessing your account please call the school on 0141-955 2351.
